On the Banks of Plum Creek

Laura Ingalls Wilder · 1937 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Modernist

The wagon and its team are traded for a dugout cut into the bank of a Minnesota creek, and the girls are warned off the deep water and the straw roof over their heads. Pa borrows against a wheat crop to raise a boarded house with glass windows, and the year the crop stands ready a cloud comes over the sun that turns out to be grasshoppers. School, a town church and a storekeeper's daughter in a fur cape arrive at the same time as the debt.
