High Windows
Seeing a couple of teenagers and guessing at everything they are now free to do, the speaker thinks of the paradise every older generation imagined for the young, then stops thinking in words at all and sees only sunlit glass and endless air. The book around that piece is colder and coarser than the earlier two: a hospital everyone must eventually attend, a flat verdict on what your mum and dad do to you, and a pit explosion recalled by the widows. The last collection he published, after which he wrote very little.
