Krapp's Last Tape
Samuel Beckett · 1958 CE · Play · English · Contemporary
On his sixty-ninth birthday an old man sets up a reel-to-reel machine, eats bananas in the dark, and plays the tape he recorded thirty years earlier, on which a younger voice is already jeering at a younger one still. He winds back again and again to a few minutes in a punt on a lake. Written for Patrick Magee, whose voice on the radio Beckett had been unable to forget.
