Hugh Selwyn Mauberley

Ezra Pound · 1920 CE · Poem · Modern / American · Modernist

A poet writes his own mock-epitaph and is dismissed in it as out of key with his time, having spent three years trying to resuscitate the dead art of poetry in a country half savage and out of date. Portraits of the London literary trade follow, and then the young men who went to war and died for an old bitch gone in the teeth, for a botched civilisation. Pound's farewell to England before he left it for Paris.
