Joy in the Morning
Jeeves wants Steeple Bumpleigh for the fishing; Bertie Wooster knows the village holds an aunt, an uncle who once had him thrashed, a former fiancée and her brother, and goes anyway because a business merger has to be conducted there in secret. A cottage burns, a brooch goes astray, and somebody announces a costume ball. Written while Wodehouse was interned in Germany and held back until his wartime broadcasts had made his name a liability.
