Loitering with Intent

Muriel Spark · 1981 CE · Novel · English · Contemporary

In post-war London, Fleur Talbot takes a job typing up the memoirs of the Autobiographical Association, ten vain members writing their lives under a baronet who keeps improving their material for them. She is finishing her own first novel, and the manuscripts on her desk begin catching up with its plot. Cellini's autobiography and Newman's Apologia sit at her elbow throughout; the book was shortlisted for the Booker.
