Lady Oracle
Margaret Atwood · 1976 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Contemporary
A Toronto writer stages her own drowning in Lake Ontario and takes a rented room in an Italian hill town, where she goes back over the fat, unloved girlhood, the Polish count, the political husband and the pseudonymous costume-Gothic career she has been running from. The lives she abandoned start arriving in the post. Atwood's third novel is a comic anatomy of the Gothic romance, written from inside the machinery that manufactures it.
