Luvina

Juan Rulfo · 1953 CE · Short Story · Latin American · Contemporary

In a cantina beside a river a man who once kept school in Luvina talks all evening to another who is on his way up there, refilling his glass between sentences. He describes a village on a stone hill where a black wind never stops, where only the very old and the women have stayed, and which he reached with his wife and children full of what he meant to do for the place. It is widely read as the seed of Comala, the town of the dead in Pedro Páramo.
