Frost
Thomas Bernhard · 1963 CE · Novel · German · Contemporary
A medical student is sent to the wretched Alpine village of Weng to observe the painter Strauch, estranged brother of the surgeon supervising him, and to report back on the man's condition. Over twenty-seven days he walks with Strauch through snow and larch wood and takes down a torrential monologue on rot, dread and the knacker's yard. Bernhard's first work of prose, and the arrival of the voice everything after it extends.
