Momo

Michael Ende · 1973 CE · Novel · German · Contemporary

An orphan girl squatting in the ruins of an amphitheatre outside a southern city has one gift: she listens so completely that people solve their own lives while talking to her. Grey-suited men start calling on her neighbours to sell savings accounts for time, and the barber, the stonemason and the children who played all afternoon begin hurrying past. Ende's fable of the time thieves reads now as a diagnosis of the attention economy.
