Prometheus Bound

Aeschylus · c. 460 BCE · Play · Greek · Classical

The Titan who gave fire to mankind is dragged to the edge of the world and nailed to a rock on the orders of a newly installed Zeus. He refuses to give up the secret that could unseat the new regime, and trades prophecy, argument and warning with the visitors who come to the crag. Defiance staged as endurance; the first drama of the punished rebel.
