Prometheus Unbound

Percy Bysshe Shelley · 1820 CE · Poem · English · Romantic

Chained to a precipice in the Indian Caucasus, Prometheus still withholds from Jupiter the secret that would end his torture, while Asia waits apart from him in a valley. Shelley takes up the story where Aeschylus's lost sequel would have gone and refuses the reconciliation, letting the fire-thief outlast his tyrant without ever striking a bargain.
