Adonais
Urania is called to weep for a young writer dead at Rome, and the mountain shepherds come to the bier alongside personified Dreams, Desires and Splendours, one of them a frail figure with a branded brow, a pardlike spirit beautiful and swift. The lament then turns from the grave to an attack on the anonymous reviewer Shelley held responsible for the death. Modelled on Bion's Lament for Adonis and Moschus's lament for Bion, both of which Shelley had translated, it was printed at Pisa in the summer of 1821.
