Sayonara
An American fighter ace posted to Kobe during the Korean War disapproves of the enlisted men marrying Japanese women, then finds himself courting a star of an all-female Osaka theatre troupe. Air force policy, his fiancée's general father and the troupe's own rules all stand in the way. Made while Hollywood still flinched at interracial romance, it put the objection in the mouths of the military and won four Academy Awards.
