Shaanxi Opera
Xia Tianzhi, a simple-minded village man, loves Bai Xue, a Qinqiang opera singer, and carries her story through decades of upheaval in a Shaanxi village. The novel follows the slow emptying of the countryside and the fading of a regional art. It won the Mao Dun Literature Prize in 2008 and was translated into English in 2024.
