Stuart Little

E. B. White · 1945 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Contemporary

A second son born to a family on East Seventy-second Street is two inches high, wears a grey suit, and has the whiskers and tail of a mouse. He retrieves his mother's ring from the bathtub drain, sails a model schooner on the Central Park pond, takes a day's work as a substitute teacher, and then heads north in a toy car after a bird he loves. White's first children's book took eight years to reach print past an editor who called it unwholesome.
