The Trumpet of the Swan

E. B. White · 1970 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Contemporary

A trumpeter swan hatched on a Canadian pond has no voice, and cannot answer the female he wants when she calls across the water. His father smashes the window of a Billings music shop and carries off a brass trumpet, leaving a debt his son sets out to repay by playing for money at a boys' camp, a Boston hotel and a Philadelphia nightclub. White's last book for children was written at seventy and dictated in part to a tape recorder.
