The Book of Esther
Hebrew scripture · c. 400 BCE · Scripture · Judeo-Christian · Ancient
A Persian king puts aside his queen and takes a Jewish orphan, Esther, without learning who her people are. His minister Haman, slighted by her guardian Mordecai, obtains a decree for the destruction of the Jews across the empire, and Esther must go to the king uninvited. The one book of the Hebrew Bible that never names God.
