The Dead
James Joyce · 1914 CE · Short Story · English · Modernist
At the Misses Morkan's Christmas party in Dublin, Gabriel Conroy carves the goose, makes the speech, and frets over how the women around him are reading him. Going home through the snow, a song someone sang turns his wife's mind back to her girlhood in Galway. Snow falls on the living and the dead.
