The Deer Hunter

Michael Cimino · 1978 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

Three Pennsylvania steelworkers drink through a long Orthodox wedding and take one last deer hunt in the mountains before shipping out to Vietnam, where they are captured and made to sit at a table with a revolver. What comes back to the mill town is not what left it. Cimino's three-hour structure of ritual, atrocity and return took Best Picture and started a long argument about its politics.
