The Flounder
The talking flatfish of the old Low German tale is caught a second time, in the Baltic of the 1970s, by three women who haul him before a tribunal convened in a Berlin cinema and charge him with having advised the male cause since the Stone Age. His defence runs through nine ages of cooks, from three-breasted Awa on the Vistula to a kitchen-maid in a Danzig convent. Wombs, food and the history of an estuary, argued at enormous length.
