The Good-Morrow

John Donne · 1633 CE · Poem · English · Renaissance

Two lovers wake and the speaker wonders what on earth the pair of them were doing before this - sucking on country pleasures, snorting in the seven sleepers' den, and any beauty he saw and wanted was a dream of her. Sea-discoverers can have their new worlds and the maps can show world upon world; this room is one world, each of them possessing one and being one. The argument closes on a piece of scholastic physics turned into a marriage vow: whatever dies was not mixed equally, so if two loves are one, neither can slacken.
