The Rose Tattoo

Tennessee Williams · 1951 CE · Play · Modern / American · Contemporary

A Sicilian seamstress on the Gulf Coast keeps her husband's ashes in an urn on the shrine and her daughter under lock, refusing every report that he was unfaithful before the truck went off the road. A driver with the same rose tattooed on his chest turns up at her door with a comic ineptitude she has no defence against. Written for Anna Magnani and dedicated to Frank Merlo, it is the warmest thing Williams put on a stage.
