The Sweetest Dream

Doris Lessing · 2001 CE · Novel · English · Contemporary

In a shabby north London house of the 1960s, Frances Lennox feeds an ever-changing crowd of her sons' friends and the dependants of her Communist ex-husband. The novel then follows some of that generation to an invented African country in famine. Lessing wrote it in place of a third volume of autobiography, and it tests the left's ideals against its practice.
