Tutaméia
Forty very short backland pieces, arranged in alphabetical order by title and interrupted at four points by prefaces in which the author theorises the anecdote, the joke and the invented word. The cases are deliberately slight — a bargain, a misunderstanding, a piece of local cunning — so that the whole weight falls on the phrasing and on what is withheld. The last book Rosa published in his lifetime; the title is a sertão word for a trifle, a thing of no account.
