Almost Never
In northern Mexico of the 1940s, Demetrio, an agronomist, is divided between a prostitute in Oaxaca and a chaste fiancee who waits for him. Sada tells it in long rhyming and syncopated sentences that turn courtship into a game of delay. Roberto Bolano called his prose the richest of his generation, and the novel won the Premio Herralde.
