Blanco

Octavio Paz · 1967 CE · Poem · Latin American · Contemporary

Written in Delhi and first printed on a single unfolding sheet, it is one text and several at once — a central column, two flanking columns set in different type, and a stated set of ways the reader may take them. Colour, the four elements, the body and the emptying-out of the word are the ground it moves across. Paz set it going from Mallarmé's dice-throw page and from Tantric practice, and took the poem-as-object no further.
