Eagle or Sun?

Octavio Paz · 1951 CE · Poem · Latin American · Contemporary

The title is what Mexicans say for heads or tails, the coin carrying an eagle on one face and a sun on the other, and everything under it is prose: a poet's workbook of failures, a run of short fables in which objects rebel and a man is given wings, and a closing sequence on the Aztec ground buried under the present. Written in Paris in the years of surrealism. It is the book that made the prose poem usable in Spanish.
