Dream on Monkey Mountain
Makak, an old charcoal burner who has spent thirty years on Monkey Mountain without once looking at his own face, is locked in a village cell for drunkenness and tells the corporal about the white woman who named him a descendant of African kings. His cellmates and his gaoler follow him into a dream of return and empire. Written for the Trinidad Theatre Workshop in a Creole stage idiom.
