Ti-Jean and His Brothers

Derek Walcott · 1958 CE · Play · Caribbean · Contemporary

Deep in the woods a frog, a cricket and a firefly tell how three sons of a poor woman each went out to meet the Devil, who has taken the shape of a white planter and offers a wager: lose your temper in his service and be eaten, hold it and win a wish. The eldest sets out on strength, the second on book learning. A St Lucian folk play built from Creole song and drum.
