An heiress jumps off her father's yacht at Miami and takes a night bus north, and the reporter in the next seat works out who she is and files nothing, on terms. Between the hitchhiking, a blanket strung across a motel room and a sing-along down the aisle, the road does the arguing for them. The first picture to take all five major Academy Awards, and the template every screwball romance since has been cut from.
