Arsenic and Old Lace

Frank Capra · 1944 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A drama critic who has just eloped stops at his aunts' Brooklyn house on the way to Niagara Falls and finds a body in the window seat. The old ladies explain that they poison lonely gentlemen out of charity and bury them in the cellar, where a brother who believes he is Theodore Roosevelt digs Panama locks. Capra shot it in four weeks in 1941 and Warners held it back three years until the Broadway run closed.
