The Imaginary Invalid

Molière · 1673 CE · Play · French · Enlightenment

A healthy man convinced he is dying keeps a household of apothecaries in business and plans to marry his daughter to a doctor so that the consultations come free. His maid stages a run of tests to show him who under his roof actually wants him alive. It is a comédie-ballet, and the play Molière was performing on 17 February 1673 when he collapsed during the fourth performance and died within hours.
