King Kong

Merian C. Cooper & Ernest B. Schoedsack · 1933 CE · Film · Modern / American · Modernist

A showman short of money and short of a leading lady hires a hungry actress off a New York breadline and sails for an uncharted island where the islanders maintain a wall against something very large. Willis O'Brien animated the ape in stop-motion against rear projection and glass paintings, eighteen inches tall on the bench. A hit that saved RKO from receivership in the worst year of the Depression.
