Lethal Weapon

A Los Angeles detective who has been suicidal since his wife's death is partnered with a homicide sergeant who has just turned fifty and wants no trouble, and a young woman's fall from a high-rise balcony pulls the pair into a heroin operation run by former special forces men. The younger man's willingness to die makes him useful and dangerous at once. Black's script fixed the buddy-cop formula.
