Orpheus and Eurydice

Greek myth · c. 500 BCE · Myth / Legend · Greek · Ancient

Orpheus, whose music stops rivers and moves stones, loses his bride Eurydice to a snakebite on their wedding day. He walks down into the underworld and plays until the rulers of the dead agree to release her, on one condition about the way back. The founding claim that art has power over death, and the founding warning about the terms.
