The Knight from Olmedo

Lope de Vega · c. 1620 CE · Play · Spanish · Renaissance

Don Alonso sees Doña Inés at the Medina fair, hires the go-between Fabia to carry his letters, and begins riding the road between the two towns by night. His rival Don Rodrigo watches the favours accumulate. Lope hangs everything on a copla every listener already knew by heart, so that omens the characters shrug off land on an audience that can hear the ending coming.
