Blood Wedding

Federico García Lorca · 1933 CE · Play · Spanish · Modernist

A mother who has buried a husband and a son to the knives of one family goes to arrange her last son's marriage, and the girl she settles on was courted years before by a man from it. The wedding goes ahead on a dry Andalusian plateau, watched by servants and neighbours who remember everything and say most of it. Lorca took the case from a report of a killing near Níjar and gave the last act to the moon and to death, in verse.
