Put Out More Flags
The phoney war hands a charming sponger his best opening in years: with everyone in uniform or in a ministry, he attaches himself to the billeting of evacuees and finds three unplaceable children he can move from country house to country house for a fee. Around him an aesthete edits a magazine for the Ministry of Information and a country wife discovers she prefers the war to her marriage. Written at sea in 1941 and dedicated to Randolph Churchill; the cast is carried over from Waugh's earlier comedies.
