Roma

Alfonso Cuarón · 2018 CE · Film · Latin American · Contemporary

A live-in domestic worker keeps house for a middle-class family in Mexico City in 1971, washing the courtyard, minding four children and watching the father pack for a conference he is not attending. Her own trouble and the family's arrive together, and both are carried through a city where paramilitaries are drilling in the parks. Cuarón's reconstruction of the household he grew up in won the Golden Lion and the directing Oscar, and pushed the argument about streaming into the festival circuit.
