Sagesse
Poems of a conversion undergone in a Mons cell, including the sonnet sequence in which Christ speaks first and the prisoner answers that he is not worth the trouble taken over him. Around them are the plain ones everybody knows, on the blue of the sky above the roof and the life that has been going on elsewhere without him. Verlaine paid for the printing himself and it sold almost nothing.
