Strange Weather in Tokyo

Hiromi Kawakami · 2001 CE · Novel · Japanese · Contemporary

Tsukiko, a single woman in her late thirties, keeps meeting her former high-school Japanese teacher at a neighbourhood bar, where they drink and order small plates in companionable silence. Over a few seasons their evenings, outings and misunderstandings grow into an unlikely and wary attachment. Winner of the Tanizaki Prize, it was translated into English in 2012 and is Kawakami's best-known book.
