Tehanu
A widowed farmer on Gont takes in a child whom the travellers keeping her beat, burned and left for dead, and soon after a dragon sets an old man down on the cliff above her house with no power left in him. The village is frightened of the burned child, the men who hurt her are still on the road, and a vacancy has opened that ordinary people will have to fill. Le Guin came back after eighteen years to ask how Earthsea looked to its women.
