The Blood Knot

Athol Fugard · 1961 CE · Play · South African · Contemporary

Two half-brothers share one room in a Port Elizabeth location and save for a small farm: Zachariah is dark, Morris is pale enough to be taken for white and back after years away he will not account for. A pen-pal correspondence Zachariah begins with a stranger is written for him by Morris, and she proves to be white and willing to visit. Fugard's breakthrough, acted by himself with Zakes Mokae before the mixed audiences the state soon prohibited.
