My Children! My Africa!
A Karoo township classroom in 1984, where a black schoolmaster who believes in books above all pairs his best pupil with a white girl from the town school for an inter-schools literature contest. The boy is already drawn into the boycott emptying schools across the country, and his teacher's faith in the syllabus is beginning to look like collaboration. Written during the state of emergency, and Fugard's most direct work on the school boycotts.
