Boesman and Lena
Their shanty knocked flat by the municipality that morning, a coloured couple walk out onto the Swartkops mudflats outside Port Elizabeth with everything they own on their backs, put up iron sheets for the night and argue over how many times this has now happened. Lena keeps trying to count the places in order, needing the sequence to come out right. An old Xhosa man who shares no language with either of them sits down at their fire.
