The Giver

Lois Lowry · 1993 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Contemporary

In a community with no colour, no weather, no music and no memory, every child is assigned a life's work at the December ceremony of the twelves. One boy is skipped over in the list, then named Receiver of Memory, and sent each afternoon to an old man who transmits into him everything the community agreed to give up. Lowry's Newbery winner is among the most challenged books in American schools and the dystopia most assigned below high school.
