Women in Love

Ken Russell · 1969 CE · Film · English · Contemporary

In a Midlands colliery town the Brangwen sisters, a teacher and an artist, take up with a school inspector and the mine-owner's heir, four people arguing love, will and the body all the way to the Alps. Russell matches Lawrence's fevered register scene for scene, most notoriously in the firelit nude wrestling match between the two men. Glenda Jackson took the Academy Award for Gudrun, and Russell's success made Lawrence filmable after decades of the novels being called untranslatable.
