Pan
A former lieutenant sets down two Nordland summers spent alone in a hut at the forest edge with his gun and his dog, shooting for the pot under a sun that never sets. The trader's daughter comes and goes at the hut and a blacksmith's wife comes too, and Glahn does damage to both by fits of pride he makes no attempt to govern. Presented as the hunter's own manuscript, with a closing section supplied years later in another voice entirely.
