The Sailor from Gibraltar

Marguerite Duras · 1952 CE · Novel · French · Contemporary

A minor French clerk who has spent eight years copying out death certificates walks away from his job and his companion during a holiday in Italy and goes aboard the yacht of a rich American woman. She has been sailing the world for years looking for a sailor she loved once and who is wanted for murder, and he agrees to keep looking with her. An early study of desire as a search whose searcher may not want it to end.
